Behind every great comic book film is a great comic BOOK that inspired it. Such is the case for all your favorite films and television shows like all the Avengers films, Wonder Woman, Preacher, The Walking Dead, The Boys, and so on and so on. One of the next Marvel Cinematic Universe films currently being made is for The Eternals. To get us ready for that film, it would be a wise idea to get to know the characters in the pages of the source material, comic books!
Today Marvel Entertainment has announced a new title, The Eternals, set to be released this November. You can check out the awesome trailer above. The comic book is written by Kieron Gillen. You may recognize his name from such titles as The Wicked + The Divine, Uncanny X-Men, and Thor. The artwork, that is also featured in the trailer, is handled by Esad Ribić. Below you can also check out the first cover by Ribić.
“I said if I was ever to do a book again at Marvel, it would have to be something I’ve never done before. This is exactly that. This is me teaming up with literally my favorite artist of the epic, taking one of those lightning-storm Kirby visions and re-making it to be as new as the day it was forged,” Gillen said. “While Esad makes whole worlds on the page, I’m applying all the skills I’ve developed when I was away. It’s a lot. It’s everything. There’s enough scale packed in here that I believe that when you look at the comic, you’ll see the pages slightly bulge. Essentially ‘Eternal’ has to mean ‘never going out of style,’ which means we’re aiming for ‘instant classic.’ Also — fight scenes, horror, human drama, emotions, explosions. Comics!”
Marvel has also made it a point to let us know that this book can even be enjoyed by folks who haven’t experienced the heroes and demons in the past. Given Gillen’s recent work on Image Comics’ Die, I think that this title is a great fit for him. I am very excited to see what kind of story he has planned. Also if can help a new Eternals reader like me enjoy the characters better!
The Eternals were created by the legendary Jack Kirby and made their first appearance in comics in Marvel’s Eternals in July of 1976.
Let us know if you’ll be picking this title up in November in the comment section below!
