Marvel Unleashes Nostalgia With X-MEN ’97 Comic Series

Marvel Comics is set to take fans on a journey down memory lane with the X-MEN ’97 comic series, set to hit stands in March 2024. The news, revealed on Marvel.com, promises a nostalgic experience for fans of the beloved ’90s X-Men era.

This four-issue comic series is designed to complement the upcoming Marvel Studios’ X-Men ’97, slated for release on Disney+. Created in collaboration with the showrunners, the X-MEN ’97 comic will provide an official prelude to the television show, offering fans an understanding of the beloved characters’ journeys before their return to the screen.

Penned by Steve Foxe, known for his work on “Dead X-Men” and “Dark X-Men,” and featuring artwork by Salva Espín, the series promises to unveil startling revelations about the lives of iconic characters such as Storm, Jubilee, and Wolverine during the period preceding their reappearance. This official prelude is expected to seamlessly lead fans into the highly anticipated new series, making it a must-read for enthusiasts of the mutant superhero team.

In an interview with Marvel.com, Steve Foxe expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “There’s a very good chance I wouldn’t be writing comics today if not for the impact X-Men: The Animated Series had on me as a kid.” Foxe emphasized the personal significance of the project, noting that the voice actors from the animated series are still the voices he hears when reading X-Men comics today. He further explained, “Getting to reunite with my X-Men ’92: House of XCII collaborator Salva Espín on this official prelude to X-Men ’97 has felt like a bucket-list project a lifetime in the making.”

The cover, crafted by Todd Nauck, provides a visual tease of the excitement that awaits fans. Marvel encourages enthusiasts to mark their calendars and secure their copies of X-MEN ’97 #1 when it lands on stands in March.
