BLOOD HUNT writer and event architect Jed MacKay, alongside Marvel Comics VP Executive Editor Tom Brevoort, recently unveiled the full scope of the eagerly anticipated saga. The duo teased its most significant mysteries, hyped up the lasting impact it will have on the Marvel Universe, and engaged in a dynamic Q&A session with retailers. The event, hosted by Ryan Penagos, VP & Creative Executive at Marvel, provided attendees with an exclusive sneak peek into the blood-soaked world of BLOOD HUNT, showcasing special parental advisory Red Band editions and cover debuts of upcoming tie-in issues.
Set to hit stands on May 1, BLOOD HUNT plunges readers into a global crisis as various vampire factions, united for the first time in millennia, orchestrate a devastating attack using Darkforce energy to block out the sun. Emerging from the shadows of the Marvel Universe, vampires are unleashed on humanity, leaving heroes and villains alike to succumb to their insatiable bloodlust. The burning question remains: WHO WILL BITE IT?
This epic saga has been intricately woven into Marvel stories for decades, with recent build-up seen in MacKay’s hit run of MOON KNIGHT, issues of MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN, and last year’s BLOODLINE: THE DAUGHTER OF BLADE limited series. Promising to be a rewarding experience for longtime Marvel readers, BLOOD HUNT also serves as a thrilling entry point for newer fans, akin to beloved events like Civil War and Secret Invasion.

During discussions with retailers, MacKay explained the logical extension of introducing vampires, stating, “As we’ve seen in Moon Knight, I keep chucking vampires in!” He emphasized that BLOOD HUNT is grounded in the work on Moon Knight, and the involvement of Doctor Strange provides a natural connection. Brevoort added, “This just seemed like a natural rise of all of these vampire threads that we could pull together and weave into an interesting tapestry. This would cover the full spectrum of the Marvel Universe in a justifiable event that doesn’t come out of nowhere.”
The Red Band Editions promise a more intense and violent experience, impacting not only background characters but also the beloved heroes of the Marvel Universe. MacKay emphasized, “[The Red Band scenes] aren’t just happening to background characters. We’re also seeing our heroes being impacted in a much more violent way.” Brevoort tantalizingly hinted at the climax of the first issue, stating, “The best page for the Red Band edition in issue #1 is the last page of the book. We can’t reveal it since it gives away too much of the plot, but you’ll know it when you get there.”
Fans are encouraged to check out the lettered preview and new tie-in covers, as well as to preorder BLOOD HUNT #1 at their local comic shops. The anticipated release of BLOOD HUNT #1 is set for May 1, both in print and digitally, while the Red Band edition will be exclusively available in print.
