The scope in the Marvel Netflix universe is set to reach a new level this summer when The Defenders hits the streaming service. This limited series will be the culmination of a franchise that began with Daredevil, and continued with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. The show will mark the first time the four of these supers share the small screen together, after a couple years of waiting from audiences.
Needless to say, with the coming together of these leads, there’s bound to be some fun interactions on set. Speaking with EW actress Krysten Ritter, who plays Jessica Jones in the show, discussed how wonderful it was being on set wtih the others.
“It just feels fun. We’re all having a blast. We’re all excited to be working together. It’s fun to see their work, how they work, what their style is, what the integrity of their characters are. We’re all so invested in our characters that everybody just wants everything to be great.â€
And it isn’t just a matter of the show being fun, but it’s a matter of it being something of a reprieve for the cast in terms of hours.
Sure, being an actor in Hollywood seems to be a relatively cushy job when compared to most of the stuff in blue collar America, but that’s not to say it’s not without its challenges. The entertainment industry is one that requires inhuman hours, and a reduced social life. 9-5 is typically not a phrase that applies here — especially with TV actors, who are required to churn out more regular content than their film acting counterpart (though the past decade has certainly blurred the lines between TV and film actors).
Ritter elaborated:
“With Jessica Jones, I’m in almost every frame of the show. This is spread out so we’re all working about three days a week. We’re all in celebration of that. It’s honestly kind of a dream job. If they want to do a Defenders 2. I’m in.â€
Given the strong track record from Marvel and Netflix, I think few will complain if this indeed happens at some point down the line. But first things first…gotta get Iron Fist and The Defenders Season 1 out of the way.
The Defenders Season 1 hits Netflix this summer!
