Matthew Lillard (Daredevil: Born Again) has been cast in an undisclosed role in James Gunn’s DCU Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow. The news was reported first by Deadline, but Gunn himself was quick to confirm the news with a post of him an Lillard together. Gunn was of course the writer on the Scooby Doo movie that Lillard starred in as Shaggy. The pair have remained friends since.
Deadline reports,
‘Matthew Lillard continues to build on what has already been a busy year as sources tell Deadline he is set to join the Superman sequel Man Of Tomorrow from DC Studios. James Gunn is directing, producing and penned the script, with David Corenswet back as the Man of Steel.’
‘Lillard joins an ensemble that includes Nicholas Hoult playing Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathon Fillion as Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Adria Arjona is also on board to play Maxima [maybe not says the rumor mill] and Aaron Pierre is also in the pic.’
Gunn then posted a photo of him and Lillard on Instagram with the caption below.
“Just casually hanging out with my longtime friend @matthewlillard for no reason.”

For now there are no rumors or even much fan speculation about who Lillard could be playing. It’s an absolute blank slate and we have no idea how big or small the part is.
Still, not bad for Lillard, in the space of two years he’s made it into the MCU and DCU. Not a lot of actors have crossed lines so far, but that’s to be expected with the DCU being so young. More and more will I’m sure cross over in time.
