Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen return to Star Wars in Obi-Wan Kenobi. As revealed in a new EW article McGregor and Christensen reveal their prep work for their long awaited returns. For McGregor it was watching all 9 Star Wars movies from the Skywalker Saga. However Christensen also watched The Clone Wars to catch up with his character as well.
“I watched them from start to finish,” McGregor says. “All nine movies. Just to get back in that world.”
“It was interesting to watch our films because I hadn’t seen them since they came out, not at all,” he says. “So it was cool to see and interesting to watch them and enjoy them without all of the noise that was around when they came out.”
Christensen went farther and also watched all of The Clone Wars and Rebels.
“I went back and rewatched all the films,” says the man who will be once again going behind the mask as Darth Vader. “And I also got into the animated shows, The Clone Wars and Rebels.”
That’s pretty thorough and I think both The Clone Wars and Rebels show a side of Anakin’s journey not represented well in the films starring Christensen. I’m sure Hayden looks at some of the dialogue and interactions in The Clone Wars and wishes he got that in the prequels.

Given that Christensen has been confirmed as appearing in Ahsoka after Obi-Wan Kenobi, I guess the Rebels story is also really important in terms of the relationship between Vader and Ahsoka. Though, since Vader is long dead by the time of Ahsoka, how will Christensen appear? Best guesses from fans so far are, either as a Force Ghost, or flashbacks to The Clone Wars.
Not long to wait now for Obi-Wan Kenobi. However with only early days shooting Ahsoka (no main cast) it will be a while before we find out more about Hayden in that show.
What do you think of the pairs comments as McGregor and Christensen reveal their prep work for Obi-Wan Kenobi? Thoughts below as always.
