MCU: Post-Endgame, Marvel Was ‘Always About The New,’ Kevin Feige Says

It’s been eleven long years since Marvel first took fans along for a thrill ride with the first film of their Phase One initiative; Iron Man. Fast forward to 2019. This year fans raucously applauded the thrilling end to Marvel’s phase 3 with the record smashing Avengers Endgame. Take that Avatar! Recently, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige discussed the future of Marvel. More specifically Feige filled us in on just how methodical and well planned the process is to once again deliver a stellar cinematic experience within the shared universe.

When discussing the interconnections of the universe Feige shared:

“There always is [a bigger vision], and it sort of only comes into view for others as it all solidifies.”

It’s good to know that Feige is allowing wiggle room for the filmmakers and their visions in Phase Four.

In addition to the accolades, Marvel has certainly learned several lessons along the way to building a successfully shared cinematic universe. One thing that stands out in the mix of news is that there will be more diversity coming to Marvel. Feige says there’s a long-game approach for Marvel Phase Four which includes the first Black Widow film, the Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Blade. Not to mention, but we’re also getting Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which is being branded as Marvel’s first horror movie. Also, we will be getting the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, but this time she will take up the mantle of Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder.

On whether or not the filmmakers are bound by the original vision, Feige says:

“So ask me again at the end of 2021. But I will say, post ‘Endgame,’ we were always about the new. We were always about doing what we always tried to do in Phase One, Two and Three, which is do a film of character you already know, [like] Black Widow, in a way that you don’t expect.”
