The legendary Michael Caine has a film career that spans six decades, over 130 films, and two Academy Awards. The actor has been in some highly-acclaimed films over the years, but one film he includes among his best outings on the screen may surprise you, Batman Begins.
Caine recently spoke with The Hindu and discussed how he was offered the role of Batman’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth. You can check out what he had to say below.
“He came to the front door of my house in the country with a script. I could see him through the glass but I couldn’t recognize him. The moment he introduced himself, I knew exactly who he was because I was a great fan of his three small films.”

“I told him, ‘I am too old for Batman. Do you want me to play the butler? What would my dialogues be? Would you like another beverage or more custard?’ So, I did the movie and it was one of the greatest things I have done in my life.”
Caine is probably my choice for the best portrayal of Batman’s famous butler. Though Sean Pertwee’s very capable and totally badass version is also at the top of my list. Jeremy Iron played a more involved iteration of the character as well. And I still haven’t seen the prequel series Pennyworth.
