The MCU’s Ant-Man films are known for being some of the more light-hearted superhero fare from the studio. Part of that (aside from director Peyton Reed, and actors Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily) is attributed to the always entertaining Michael Peña. His impeccable comedic delivery as Scott Lang’s buddy Luis was a welcome addition to the franchise. However, Peña has been left wondering if Luis will return for another Ant-Man adventure.

While promoting the upcoming reimagining of Fantasy Island from Blumhouse Productions, Peña explained that he has “no idea” if he will be in the next installment of the Ant-Man series. He explained:

For the last one, I didn’t really know what capacity I was going to come back in or if I was going to come back. I think they’re a year away from filming, I think it would be great if I could do a third one. But you never know, especially with all the stuff that happened in Endgame. Right now, Marvel’s in a situation where they can crush some expectations, they’re gonna have to crush some expectations of other characters, not just mine, so hopefully I make the cut.

Aligning with Peña’s comments are comments made by Michael Douglas in regards to the shoot date. If filming were to begin in January 2021, that leaves three already announced Marvel Studios release dates for the film: February 18, 2022, May 6, 2022, or July 29, 2022. Since the last two Ant-Man films were released in July, that July 29 date could be the popular choice.

It would be a shame for there to be another film without Peña’s Luis character. His chemistry with Rudd and the cast was undeniable. The light-hearted side of the franchise would definitely suffer a bit without Peña. Here’s hoping Marvel decides to keep Scott’s buddy Luis for at least one more adventure.
