Following the rumors Michael Waldron has been confirmed as the writer of both The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. The Barside Buzz has been up and down on this one over the last year. Waldron was confirmed as the writer of Avengers: Secret Wars some time ago. However, the Buzz was that he had been taken off writing duties after Multiverse of Madness.
At that point Jeff Loveness who wrote Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was penning Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Loveness was let go from that movie and at the same time it lost its director in Destin Daniel Cretton. Then a Marvel producer said that Waldron was working on both of the next Avengers movies. Now Deadline reports this is indeed the case and Michael Waldron is now writing both Avengers movies.
‘Michael Waldron has been tapped to write Marvel Studios‘ Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Waldron had already been set to write Avengers: Secret Wars, the instalment that would follow Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and will now write both Avengers sequels.’
As conformed by the trade, the search for a director is now ongoing. Yesterday we covered a rumor that says Sam Raimi is in contention for both these Avengers movies. The pair has worked together before on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. There was some criticism of Multiverse of Madness from fans and critics. However, we should remember that both Waldron and Raimi were brought in late to develop that movie. One thing we can say about these Avengers movies is that Waldron and whoever directs has plenty of time to develop them.

For now the director hunt remains active and I’m sure there are plenty of candidates that would be interested. I’m not that sold on the idea of Raimi as I’m not particularly a fan of the Raimi Spider-Man movies. However we also need to remember it’s been rumored that Tobey Maguire and Hugh Jackman could be the leads of Secret Wars. That’s all just rumors for now though and with scripts still in flux it could be a combination of who Marvel can agree to bring in, what their terms may be and what story Waldron has in mind.
