Two years ago Marvel launched it’s first Netflix series Daredevil, starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson. With an overwhelming positive response, the studio soon also launched Jessica Jones starring Krysten Ritter as Jessica, Rachel Taylor as Trish Walker and David Tennant as Kilgrave. In that series was the introduction to Luke Cage who is played by Mike Colter, who soon debuted in his own series. Finally, this year we got Iron Fist, starring Finn Jones as Danny Rand and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing. The reason we are taking this trip down memory lane is that these characters are now set to come together in August in a new Netflix series The Defenders.

Thanks to the trailer for The Defenders we know that Elektra Natchios, played by Elodie Yung, and Claire Temple played by Rosairo Dawson will also be back for the series. We know that the antagonist in the series will primarily be played by Sigourney Weaver as a character named “Alexandra”. But thanks to the MCU Exchange we also know that a very familiar character will be back for another go around, and that is Madame Gao played by Wai Ching Ho.

This occurred by accident during a panel at Comicpalooza in Houston, Texas last week. While Mike Colter was talking about the characters in The Defenders trailer someone in the audience shouted out Madame Gao’s name, to which Colter agreed to by saying, “We saw Madame Gao [in the trailer]. Gao’s in it.” 

Now if you haven’t seen the trailer I will have it posted again below, but the point is that Madame Gao is in fact not in the trailer. Until this blunder by Colter there had been no knowledge of Gao’s involvement in the series. She has been a great character so far in both Daredevil and Iron Fist so she will be a great inclusion in the series, especially if The Hand is involved. I look forward to this series as it will be great to see all these characters that we’ve invested so much time on in the same show, also it will be interesting to see who else shows up. Are you glad to hear that Madame Gao will be returning?
