As Netflix’s Mindhunter star Holt McCallany prepares to start in the upcoming Guy Ritchie film Cash Truck opposite Jason Statham, the film veteran will be adding another masterful director to his resume. McCallany has joined the cast of Guillermo del Toro’s next project, Nightmare Alley. The film marks del Toro’s first time in the Director’s Chair for a film since his 2017 Oscar-winning The Shape Of Water.
McCallany will be joining the likes of Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Willem Dafoe, Bradley Cooper, Toni Collette, and David Strathairn. The film is based on the 1946 novel written by William Lindsay Gresham, which tells the tale os an ex-carnival con-man turned spiritualist (Cooper) who teams up with a female psychiatrist to con their wealthy marks–until it all takes a turn. Del Toro adapted the screenplay along with Kim Morgan (The Forbidden Room, Seances) for Fox Searchlight. The book was first adapted into a film back in 1947, with Edmond Goulding directing and Tyrone Power and Coleen Gray starring.

McCallany became a recognizable face on screen after his stint in David Fincher’s Fight Club with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. More recently, he’s made appearances in Sully, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Shot Caller, and a small part in the opening of Justice League before the success of Mindhunter on Netflix. The series is currently awaiting approval from the streaming service for a third season.
Production for Nightmare Alley is planned to begin in Toronto next year with a 2021 release.
