My name is Joseph Medina and I’m a cable cutter. I haven’t had cable in any form since 2007, and I don’t plan on getting it any time soon. For me, personally, it’s a cost thing. Cable is more expensive than I’m willing to pay and I value my subscriptions to Netflix and Hulu much more than I do a service that gives me channels I’d prefer not to even use.
It turns out I’m not alone. A new poll was taken, and of a sample of 2,201, they found that 65% of their respondents state that TV bundles give them channels they don’t want, with 73% saying they’d prefer to choose their own channels. Makes plenty of sense, but that wasn’t the only information they had to offer.

When asked the reasoning behind them giving up cable, 63% said cost was a major factor, and 53% of former satellite subscribers aid the same. Interestingly enough, only 37% said they got rid of it because they already had all the content they wanted through streaming services. As someone who also doesn’t have cable, I agree. I have most of what I want, but not absolutely everything, and it’s the cost that has more to do with me not wanting to get cable than me actually thinking I have all I could ever want through streaming (though I do have plenty).
Still, cable remains king. 42% of respondents said they use cable or satellite more than streaming services, and only 27% said they used streaming platforms more. Conversely, 46% of 18 to 29-year-olds said they used streaming platforms more and only 20% said they watched cable more. Clearly, there is a shift ready to take hold in the near future.
