My Spy Finally To Be Released For Amazon Prime Video Rather Than Theaters

My Spy
My Spy starring Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman

My Spy, after numerous pushbacks in theatrical release dates, will finally see the light of day.

Amazon Studios announced the online streaming site would release the comedy, My Spy, starring Dave Bautista and newcomer Chloe Coleman.

The film was in theatrical limbo for quite some time. The original release date was in the summer of 2019. Due to another Dave Bautista released film of Stuber, the studio decided to push the theatrical release date to a later date to prevent two Bautista’s films released within weeks of each other. It moved for a January 2020 release date but then shifted into March and April release dates. Finally, the Covid-19 pandemic permanently canceled the theatrical release date, which postponed all theatrical releases pending re-opening of the theaters.

Amazon Studios acquired the distribution rights and will release it exclusively on June 26 later this month.

The follows JJ, a hardened CIA operative, who has been demoted and finds himself a the mercy of precocious 9-year-old girl, Sophie, where he has been sent undercover begrudgingly to surveil her family. When Sophie discovers hidden cameras in her apartment, she uses her tech-savviness to locate where the surveillance operation is set. In exchange for not blowing JJ’s cover, Sophie convinces him to spend time with her and teach her to be a spy. Despite his reluctance, JJ finds he is no match for Sophie’s disarming charm and wit.

The film also stars Kristen Schaal, Parisa Fitz-Henley, and Ken Jeong. Peter Segal directed the movie from the script penned by Jon and Erich Hoeber.

Actors Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman took to Twitter to make the release date announcement in their hilarious online conversation about the film never got a release date. Coleman even released a photo of Bautista wearing matching outfits with his pit bulls, but it would’ve been more hilarious to see Bautista in the Elsa outfit.
