NALIP | Diana Luna Addresses State of Latino Filmmaking and Upcoming NALIP Gala

NALIP

In the past few years, Latinos have made significant progress in filmmaking, especially since Latinos purchased nearly 30 percent of all box tickets, according to several reports.

Diana Luna, executive director of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers, expects more progress and opportunities for Latinos in the future. For 2023, tomorrow night’s NALIP Gala will celebrate many of the achievements of Latinos in the industry.

During the end of the year, NALIP Gala seeks to recognize Latino excellence in the entertainment industry. The event will be hosted by The Daily Show alum Al Madrigal, with Cumbia pop star Estevie set to perform. The event also marked the 25th anniversary of the organization.

NALIP seeks to change media culture by advocating and promoting the professional needs of Latine artists in media. Standing at the forefront of that systemic change, the organization works with industry leaders towards seeing a more inclusive future both on-and-off screen. While the world has seen some improvements since its founding, there is still much work to be done. The Latine community continues to be grossly underrepresented within the entertainment industry—and NALIP is here to help ensure they continue to move forward in the right direction.

Founded in 1999, a group of producers, content creators, academics, and media advocates tired of their fight to be heard came together in search of building community. Since then, NALIP has strived to work towards discovering, promoting, and inspiring Latine content creators with our multifaceted programs.
