Recently, we heard that a third installment into the National Treasure franchise was in the works. Today, we received word that there is also a TV show based on the series headed to Disney+. The series is said to feature a younger cast, while any big-screen sequel would feature the actors and actresses from the previous two films.
Check out what producer Jerry Bruckheimer had to say below while speaking with Collider.
“We’re certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we’re working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they’ll both come together and we’ll bring you another National Treasure, but they’re both very active….The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It’s the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast.”

While I am a fan of the movies, the series sounds like it’s going to be a bit too teen-focused for me, though I will surely give it a shot. Sure, the films were a little over-the-top at times, but they were still fun and entertaining. Bruckheimer also stated that Nicolas Cage will return for the third film and the script is currently being written. The TV series is in the earlier stages of development.
