Now, according to an article from Variety, the film’s stars and director are receiving massive paydays for the production, which is set to begin filming in 2020. Reynolds and Gadot both will receive $20 million for their roles, while Johnson will receive a higher payday as he is set to star and act as primary producer of the film. Thurber will receive at least $10 million for writing and directing. Those numbers could go up by several millions given Netflix’s practice of paying additional for finishing and delivering films to its service. As per the Variety report:

The budget for Red Notice could hit $200 million when additional fees are taken into account, although one insider familiar with the project pegged the budget at roughly $160 million. On Tuesday, Johnson took to social media to thank Netflix for “making its largest commitment ever to a feature film.”

Red Notice was originally set to be distributed by Universal Pictures, but the studio granted the filmmakers the option to shop the project around. Given that theaters are jam-packed with comic book adaptations and sequels, productions that do not involve pre-existing intellectual property have faced fierce competition and in some cases have gone by the wayside. And with opposition coming from Disney and HBO in the upcoming “streaming wars,” grasping a project that features three big names like Johnson, Gadot, and Reynolds is exactly the type of content Netflix wants to store in their arsenal library.

Netflix originals due to come out soon include Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman–starring Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci–and the Michael bay-directed Six Underground, also starring Reynolds.
