Trailer for Cursed from Netflix is here!

The tale of the rise of King Arthur has been re-told again and again in films, television series, and books. He is well known for his legendary sword, Excalibur, as well as his knights of the round table. Last fall Thomas Wheeler released a book that included a cinematic twist on the story of King Arthur. Here the Lady of the Lake is the true hero. It included illustrations from the legendary comic book creator, Frank Miller.

Yesterday, Netflix released an official trailer for the series adaptation of that book. You can check it out above! Cursed, is set to be released on July 17th, 2020. It will consist of ten, one-hour episodes. Wheeler is serving on the project as showrunner. He will also be serving as executive producer along with Frank Miller and Leila Gerstein. The co-executive producer on the series is Silenn Thomas.

Here is the synopsis provided by Netflix for Cursed:

Based on the New York Times bestselling book, Cursed is a re-imagination of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a young woman with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a humble mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther. Cursed is a coming-of-age story whose themes are familiar to our own time: the obliteration of the natural world, religious terror, senseless war, and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.

The cast for the series includes Katherine Langford, Devon Terrell, Gustaf Skarsgård, Daniel Sharman, Sebastian Armesto, Matt Stokoe, Lilly Newmark, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Emily Coates, Billy Jenkins, Bella Dayne, and Peter Mullan.

I am a sucker for all things medieval, so I look forward to watching this series later this month. I enjoy seeing the different variations on the classic story, where the writers focus on different characters. In this case, it’s Nimue.
