New Indiana Jones Toys On The Way From Hasbro - Will They Sell This Time?

As per the title there are new Indiana Jones toys on the way from Hasbro. On Wednesday, Hasbro announced that it had extended its relationship with Lucasfilm, renewing its Star Wars licensing agreement. However they also announced the two companies are expanding their working relationship. Hasbro now also has the rights to create products based on the Indiana Jones series.

According to the press release, Hasbro plans to continue creating toys and games that appeal to fans across demographics. I’ll get to that point more below. Hasbro’s Indiana Jones line will debut in the United States in 2023, alongside the next Indiana Jones movie’s theatrical debut.

“We’re proud to deepen our close working relationship and collaborate with the Disney team to bring innovative and engaging play experiences to kids, fans, and families inspired by some of the world’s most iconic entertainment brands,” said Eric Nyman, Chief Consumer Officer, Hasbro, in a press release. “In addition to a slate of new collectibles, figures, role play gear, and games for Star Wars and Marvel, it’s an honor to bring Indiana Jones back to Hasbro and help introduce the beloved franchise to a new generation of fans.”

“Disney has long valued its relationship with Hasbro in developing fresh, imaginative products and toys that delight our fans of all ages,” said Stephanie Young, President of Disney Consumer Products, Games and Publishing. “We’re thrilled to continue collaborating with this iconic company—one that will help lift our consumer experiences across the Marvel, Star Wars and now Indiana Jones franchises to new heights for years to come.”

I guess my question would be, again as per the tile, will these Indiana Jones toys sell this time? I remember the toy campaign for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and my son was of the age where I think he got an Indy figure and perhaps one or two more. However I also recall the stock not moving on store shelves whatsoever, and the quality not being good enough for adult collectors.

Ultimately here is the issue I think exists. The people who want to buy Indiana Jones toys are not kids. Kids these days mostly haven’t even heard of Indy never mind want the toys. Damn, if someone had released these when I was a kid in the 80’s (The U.S. ones didn’t make it the the U.K. ) these would have been gold because everyone around my age was an Indy fan.

These days though? Is Indiana Jones 5 really going to get kids asking their parent to get them toys of Indy and friends? For me, the way to make money of Indy merchandise is the adult fans, who always spend more money anyway. Star Wars, Lucasfilm’s other big franchise has a billion more merch options available than Indy, and yet still a lot of the merch sells to adult collectors.

I guess we will see? What do you think of the news that new Indiana Jones toys on the way from Hasbro. Any Indy collectors out there who would love to see some high quality products aimed at adults, or not? Sound off below.
