The next live action remake of an animated classic from Disney is Mulan. This film was released in 1998 and it contained some very memorable characters like Mushu and Lucky the Cricket as well as memorable songs like Reflection, A Girl Worth Fighting For and I’ll Make a Man Out of You. This March, we will see Niki Caro’s vision of Mulan, which has gotten a lot of backlash after it was said that the film would not contain any of the songs or Mushu. The film is said to take a more grounded approach, which in my opinion would be welcomed after the last few films like The Lion King.
Today Disney released six character posters that give us a look at some of the featured characters including Yifei Liu as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Bori Khan, Yoson An as Cheng Honghui, Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor. You can check them out below!
As we can see above the characters in the posters are ready for war. With the tone we have seen in the trailer and now these posters, I think that although the songs are memorable they wouldn’t fit to well in this film. So if that is such a big deal then go back and enjoy the animated film. Will this approach work? We will see in March.
Caro is directing the film based on a screenplay by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin that is taken from the narrative poem “The Ballad of Mulan”. The film is being produced by Jason Reed, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner with Bill Kong, Barrie M. Osborne, Tim Coddington and Mario Iscovich serving as executive producers.
