Oh Goodie, Disney Has Just Ordered A Live-Action Bambi

Last year, audiences got to experience Mufasa die as a photorealistic lion, and apparently that wasn’t heartbreaking enough for the House of Mouse. Now they’re going to make you watch Bambi’s mom die in a photorealistic “live-action” movie. That’s right. Disney is continuing to adapt their classics for live-action, and has set their sights on poor ol’ Bambi.

According to Variety, screenwriters Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer are being brought on. The former had a hand in the Captain Marvel script and the latter did Sierra Burgess is a Loser for Netflix. The pair were also working together on a Silver Sable film for Sony, and both have a whole myriad of projects on the way separately.

There are no other details other than that Chris and Paul Weitz’s studio Depth of Field acting as producers. I’m sure once a draft is turned in, they’ll lock down a director. Either way, I’d expect we’d probably get something that looks a lot like The Lion King, but the benefit here is that Bambi is likely a film that would require a completely new script, so at least we’d likely get something different.
