New Poster Hits For Robert Rodriguez’s New $7,000 Film Red 11

If you’ve ever been into the independent film scene at any point, chances are you’re at least vaguely aware of Robert Rodriguez. The man is famous for making a film for the low, low price of $7,000, which jumpstarted his career and led him to eventually making the $150 million-budgeted Alita: Battle Angel.

The filmmaker has always been about making films under restrictive circumstances, and if you had a chance to check out his latest reality series Rebel Without a Crew, you’ll know that he opted to make a $7,000 film as well along with the filmmakers on the show. I’d wondered what had happened to that movie. We never saw him making it, and they never mentioned his movie again, so I’m pleased to report that it’s coming very soon, with a new poster having been revealed from the folks over at Collider.

Another cool reveal is that the film is based on Rodriguez’s experiences as sort of a medical guinea pig. One of the many things he did to raise money for that first film of his was for being sort of a test dummy. Apparently, that’s not a bad start to a creepy film.

Below is the official synopsis for Red 11:

“Adapted from a script written 25 years ago that was based on Robert Rodriguez’s experiences in a Medical Research Facility, RED 11 is a Horror/Thriller set in a dark, twisted version of the Legal Drug Research world. At these Facilities, young guys become Lab Rats to make quick money, but our hero RED 11 is here to buy his way out of a huge debt to the tune of $7,000. This story shows the quirks, characters, and comedy of Robert’s experiences of being a human Lab Rat, but with a sci fi and horror twist, because while under the influence of experimental drugs, Red 11 doesn’t know if what’s in front of him is fact or fiction.”

Red 11 is set to premiere at this year’s SXSW on March 12, 2019.
