Is a PlayStation 5 State of Play around the corner?

I know. We’re all excited. Some may say we’re a tad over-excited. But can you actually blame gamers? The new generation of consoles is just around the corner — and we’ve all been cooped up in our homes for months. It’s no wonder we can’t wait to let every bit of news pour over us. In fact, despite how close we are to this new generation (about four months), it does feel like there are still a lot of unanswered questions that both Sony and Microsoft need to address. That being said, Sony does have the edge in terms of gameplay shown.

But that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning over and over. The latest comes from journalist and video game insider Jeff Grubb. He took to Twitter to share an image featuring a calendar of events. In between an August 5 listing for “Rewatch GalaXy Quest” and an August 11 listing for “Frontier Showcase,” he had a conspicuous one called “State of Play.”

Sony PlayStation 5 will know State of Play as the Nintendo Direct-like presentations that Sony puts on every couple of months. In them, they run down the latest games, show off gameplay footage, and reveal new I.P.s. Seriously, if you’ve ever seen a Nintendo Direct, it’s a direct ripoff of that concept — but that doesn’t make it any less cool!

With August just around the corner, this leak indicates we’re less than a couple of weeks away from that thing hitting. With the next generation of consoles on the way, one can only expect the PlayStation 5 will DOMINATE this State of Play. Considering they shared 50 minutes of game footage during the PS5 reveal event weeks ago, they likely have more than enough to fill out a 20-30-minute presentation, especially if they dig deeper.

Of course, it’s always possible that they’ll have some PlayStation 4 stuff, but that would seem a bit counterproductive at this point, wouldn’t it?
