The original “Secret Life of Pets” seemed cute enough. “What do the pets do when the owners are away,” seemed to be the basic premise, though it wasn’t quite clear what the film’s overall story would be. In the latest Snowball-centric teaser, we see that perhaps the movie isn’t quite what we expected it to be.

Check out the new teaser below!

Based on this short clip, it looks like the story may be a lot more different than what we expected at first. Rather than have it be about what the pets do when the owners are away, it seems more like it asks what happens to the pets who run away or get lost. The film is due out this summer, so it’s possible they’ve yet to fully reveal what the story is about. If this teaser is any indication, we’re likely to get two more character-centric trailers, and only then may we actually have a full scope of the story.

Overall, I thought this teaser was cute, though I could personally do without the fecal humor near the end, but it’s a film aimed towards kids, so what’re you gonna do? It seems to have decent enough jokes, and if you have a kid, you could likely do worse than what we see here.

“The Secret Life of Pets” is from Illumination Entertainment, the same animation studio responsible for “Despicable Me” and “Minions,” so if nothing else, we know this studio knows how to appeal to a mass audience. With this being its first new real I.P. since “Hop” (which we’ll just ignore), it’ll be interesting to see if the studio is able to replicate the success of its previous work.

“The Secret Life of Pets” hits theaters on July 8, 2016.
