Snape… Snape… Severus Snape! When I think of the Slytherin house that annoying yet satisfying tune pops into my head. Harry Potter, a series of fantasy novels written by British author J.K. Rowling has fans all over the world that look for ways to express their love for their favorite characters. Tattoos, cosplay, naming your kids, or what about naming a newly discovered animal?

According to Forbes, this is exactly what happened. In mountainous northeastern India, a bright green viper has recently been discovered. It has been named, Trimeresurus salazar. Or the venomous snake can causally be called Salazar’s pit viper. It is the newest addition to the genus Trimeresurus, which includes at least 48 other species of pit viper in east and southeast Asia.

Salazar Slytherin was one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry along with Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, and Rowena Ravenclaw. He is also the namesake of the Slytherin House. He was very well known for being mistrusting and disliking Muggle-born students. In his opinion, they shouldn’t even be allowed to attend Hogwarts. He is also responsible for the Chamber of Secrets and the basilisk inside.

Now we can only have an owl or a mouse get a Harry Potter name reference that would be great (joking). At least the name fits the animal that it was given, being Slytherin’s association with snakes. But don’t ask me what I think of them because I’ve always considered myself part of house Gryffindor.
