New Still From Secret Invasion As Jackson Hopes Nick Fury Will Be Around A While Longer

In a recent interview, Secret Invasion director Ali Selim seems unconcerned with the negative reviews.

A new still from Secret Invasion has been released showing Nick Fury. Additionally, Samuel L. Jackson says he hopes to be around a while longer playing Nick in the MCU. Empire Online released the new still which you can see from their social media post below.

However, the trade magazine also spoke with star Samuel L. Jackson about what kind of Nick Fury we will see in Secret Invasion.

“All those things are part of a Nick Fury that’s invulnerable,” Jackson tells Empire for their new world-exclusive issue on the Marvel thriller series. “Here you have a guy who’s showing his face, and showing his age. It’s an opportunity to humanise someone that everybody thinks is superhuman.”

“I had to figure out some stuff and work out some new things, which I’ve been trying to do for a while,” says Jackson. “It’s great to have an opportunity to find out who he was and delve into how much of a toll his job actually takes on his personal life.”

Secret Invasion producer Jonathan Schwartz says the idea was to focus on the vulnerabilities of Fury.

“One of the things we really wanted to bring to this show that makes it a little bit unique in the Marvel universe is vulnerability,” he says. “Nick Fury is just a human, Maria Hill [Cobie Smulders] is just a human. A single bullet could take them out. That’s something we don’t always get in the MCU. To bring that level of tension, fear and vulnerability into one of our shows was really exciting.”

As per the title, the question was raised by Empire of whether this could be the end for Nick Fury, or whether the actor will return?

“I love playing him, and I love the fact that they’re opening him up to all these other possibilities and this whole life that he has,” he says. “So hopefully I’m not done, and in this new phase of the MCU I’ll still be floating in and out of there somehow, some way.”

There is definitely room for more Nick Fury stories and Disney+ is the space those should be explored. Well, pending the availability of Mr. Jackson, who remains a very hard working actor in his more senior years. I do hope Jackson gets to really be the lead of Secret Invasion, he’s never really had that yet. Fury is now the sole survivor (maybe) from the first MCU movie Iron Man (assuming Happy Hogan doesn’t return), so it’s time we got to learn more about such an important character.

I certainly hope Secret Invasion is a great show, it has the tone and elements that I usually go for. That being said, I’ve not loved all the recent Disney+ shows from Marvel. Let’s hope that trend is reversed here.

Marvel’s Secret Invasion hits Disney+ on June 21st. Expect the MM lads to review every episode on their Marvel reviews show.

So, Samuel L. Jackson says he hopes to be around a while longer playing Nick Fury. What do you think of Jackson’s comments? What do you think of the new still from Secret Invasion, are you looking forward to the show? Thoughts below as always.
