With everything going on around the world today we have seen all media have to delay their outputs. Movie releases have been pushed back to the end of the year, conventions have been cancelled, and video game productions have been put on hold. Nintendo along with Sony and Xbox have been greatly affected as well.
Remember Nintendo Directs? Yes, we’ve had some this year, but it’s been understandably lax in the more recent six months. In the past, we’d usually get one ever few months or so, but Nintendo has instead given us videos more targeted at specific games. Earlier in the pandemic Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa recently discussed their marketing during an investors Q&A.
“We feel Nintendo Directs are an incredibly effective way to present information directly to our customers in a very straight-forward way,” said Furukawa. “Inversely, times change and so does the most effective way to promote products, so there is a chance that a new, better way to present this information comes about. So we always like to examine all of the possible ways to communicate this information to customers.”

Now we see what Shuntaro Furukawa was talking about, earlier today on Twitter Nintendo America suddenly announced a Nintendo Direct Mini for later today.
On 7/20 we’ll debut the first #NintendoDirect Mini: Partner Showcase, a series focused on titles from our development & publishing partners. We’ll share a few updates on a small group of previously-announced #NintendoSwitch games. Check out the full video release at 7am PT. pic.twitter.com/GbEbxVL6fD

Although Furukawa’s earlier comments had some concerned that the pullback of Nintendo Directs would become a permanent deal. With the name and description it seems that we are not going to see anything groundbreaking but more small trailers and updates to already released games.
It looks like this is the approach Nintendo will last for the remainder of the year, so I can’t help but wonder how much new products we will really be getting with Nintendo Direct Mini. But what do you think of this announcements? Do you think we are getting anything really new? Let us know your thoughts down below!
