“No One Is Safe” In Gotham’s Final Season

After four seasons of Gotham it’s hard to think of the show getting any darker. But after the events of the last episode in season 4 it’s hard to imagine that things aren’t going to get worse. After all Gotham City has been abandoned by the government with no way out since the bridges were blown up. The last season of Gotham will be taking some inspiration from the No Man’s Land story line that ran in Batman comics in 1999, as well as Batman’s Zero Year story line during the New 52.

With the series in production, Bam! Smack! Pow! had the opportunity to speak with Andrew Sellon, who plays the Penguin’s anxious accountant Mr. Penn. Part of the conversation was centered around the effects of a story line like No Man’s Land being added to the series.

“If you thought Gotham was a tough town before, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet”, Sellon warned. “No Man’s Land is literally a war zone, and absolutely no one is safe. There’s danger—and potentially death—around every corner. But somehow out of all the anarchy and violence, a couple of heroes are rising”.

Based on some of the set photos that we have seen, we know that this will be a very intense season. Could we be seeing some surprise character deaths? We’ll have to wait and see. Currently showrunner John Stephens is working on the series finale. Although it has not been confirmed by Warner Bros. or Fox the rumor is that the final season of Gotham will only be 10 episodes.

Sellon went to to reassure fans that although this will be a shortened season, it doesn’t mean that it will be less thrilling than the rest. “Despite having our season shortened, everyone is there delivering 150 percent to give Gotham‘s fans the insanely high quality they’ve come to expect”, Andrew said. “Fans won’t be disappointed. Every show has to end sometime, and if anything, the cast and crew have bonded that much more in our determination to send Gotham out in the style it deserves”.

With so many villains looking to take control of Gotham City, it will be interesting to see if the GCPD and the rest of the show’s heroes are able to take control of the chaos. It will be great to see so many of Batman’s rouges make appearances in the last season of Gotham.
