No Plans To Cross Sabrina Over With Riverdale

Just a few months ago, it seemed inevitable that The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina would end up on the CW, alongside its sister series, Riverdale. The two would have an ArrowFlash-type relationship, with characters popping in and out of each other’s shows like there’s no tomorrow. Because of this expectation, it was a bit of a shock when Sabrina ended up on Netflix.

What would this mean for its relationship to Riverdale? Would they be in separate worlds altogether now? Speaking with Archie Digest: A Riverdale Podcast’s Chris Hayner (via Screen Rant), CW head Mark Pedowitz told the co-host that there were currently no plans to go down that route, and that it was important to make Sabrina her own thing. But as with all things, never say never. Here’s what Hayner relayed on the podcast:

“Based on what [Pedowitz] said, they are completely focused on getting Sabrina off the ground on Netflix and not thinking about crossovers at all, but they hope there might be a possibility sometime in the future. But they want to establish Sabrina as its own entity on Netflix before they even start thinking about it.”

This makes a lot of sense, and is basically the approach Black Lightning is taking with its own show. Nowadays, it’s become easy to make a show too reliant on its sister shows, and audiences have become hungrier to see properties survive on their own merits. Making sure there’s a solid backbone to each one before crossing them over is likely the best way to go about doing things. It is, after all, how Marvel set up their own successful cinematic universe.
