Noah Hawley Doesn’t Appear Confident About His Doctor Doom Script For Marvel Being Picked Up

The movie business is always changing, but rarely do we see such a change as we have had in the last year, with Disney taking over 20th Century Fox and all their IPs as a result. Of course for Marvel fans, this is seen as good news as so many of their characters came back to them available for use as a result of the deal. Considering how many downright bad or average X-Men and Fantastic Four movies Fox gave us, it’s no wonder fans are happy to see them back in the MCU.

However, some Fox produced Marvel properties have actually been good, and one intriguing idea they had in place was for Noah Hawley to write and direct a Doctor Doom movie. Hawley had been hopeful that Marvel president Kevin Feige would be interested in his take on Doctor Doom, but with Hawley’s recent comments to Deadline, he doesn’t seem confident this will happen.

“The phone hasn’t rung, I love the script and what I did with it. Marvel seems to have a plan for everything, it would be great if I fell into that plan. And I haven’t been chasing it, and with Star Trek, it complicates it  But if the phone rings, I’m in.”

We obviously have no idea what plans Marvel has for Doctor Doom, but you better believe they do have a plan. I would think across the next decade we will Doctor Doom play a major part in the future of the MCU, we just don’t know how or where yet other than a few rumors and some hints (check the related section below).

Hawley previously spoke about his hope that Kevin Feige would be interested in his script when the deal for the Disney-Fox merger went through. Then, speaking with Uproxx back in October and said this about Doctor Doom.

“Yeah, I mean, it combined genres. And it’s sort of a Cold War parallel film. And I really like it. I’ve been too busy to really lean on them, and they certainly haven’t called me on the phone. And during my sit down with Kevin Feige, when he asked about the Doctor Doom movie, he said, “Are you still working on it?” And I said, “Should I still be working on it?” I said, “I assume you guys have a plan in a drawer somewhere for the Fantastic Four.” And he smiled a little bit, but would neither confirm nor deny. But yeah, I think it would be a great comic book movie certainly.”

I guess without reading the script, or knowing what Marvel’s plans are for this character, it’s hard to know whether this the right kind of movie for the MCU. But as said above, you can be pretty certain that Doom is coming, we just don’t know when or where yet.
