The latest Marvel Barside Buzz is saying that we are due one FINAL MCU Special Presentation on Disney+. After this, there will be no more as they are not profitable for what they cost to make. The first of two rumors comes from regular insider MTTSH. Remember there was a rumor a secret Mephisto SP was filmed alongside Agatha: Coven of Chaos? Well, the insider says there really was a secret SP filmed with Agatha, but it is not for Mephisto. Instead she says this is for an adaption of The Witches Road, and may therefore feature Wanda herself. Check out the Tik Tok post for more details.

The Witches Road is a plane of existence that only sorcerers can enter. Since Agatha deals with a variety of sorcerers, it does make some sense. For now though lets just treat this a maybe rumor. I feel like it’s a tricky thing to define this bang on if it was filmed concurrently but then it’s not my sources. Additionally, if this plane of existence is not the living world is it possible a deceased, or otherwise trapped Wanda could show up? That’s purely speculation on my part though.
As for the second part of the rumor, another regular leaker CWGST says that Marvel is done with the Special Presentation format. Apparently it just costs too much money for a one off and it must not be driving any Disney+subs. .

It is a shame from an artistic stand point as these SP one shots are usually pretty tight and imaginative. I know we only have the two, but I think I relate these back to the old one shots you would get on the DVD/Blu ray and those were always cool.

I get why Werewolf by Night be be too expensive as it’s filmed independently. However Guardians 3 and the HS were filmed at the same time, surely that can’t cost as much as a whole new set up. Equally if this was filmed alongside Agatha, isn’t it just the cost of adding one more episode to series but it’s shown separately?
I’m not an expert on franchise financing so maybe I’m way off base here. I just think the concurrent approach is a cool way to keep these and also keep costs low. There’s also the fact that some of these SP’s could just be two characters sitting in a dinner talking. How expensive is that to pull off? Then again, Marvel would just get complaints there wasn’t enough action and that would end that kind of thing quickly.
Oh well, I wish every movie could be a $200M blockbuster but it can’t be because the economics don’t work. I guess the same has always been true of TV as well. You can make hugely expensive TV shows, but they have to be Game of Thrones levels of popularity to make money.
