Pat Morita Had An Interesting Idea For A Fifth Karate Kid Film Involving Miyagi and Johnny Lawrence

Pat Morita had an idea for another Karate Kid flick? Read on for more details!

The original Karate Kid is an 80s classic and a good example or cinema of the time period. The two sequels were unfortunately not on the same level of quality.

Miyagi himself had an idea for a fifth film. The news comes from Johnny Lawrence himself, William Zabka, who says Pat Morita had an idea for a story where Miyagi passes away, and during this time, he envisions Johnny as his doctor. Zabka went into more detail while speaking with Collider. You check out what he had to say below.

“I had so many people that had ideas for Johnny Lawrence. Actually, my favorite one was Pat Morita himself had an idea. He wasn’t done with Miyagi yet, and this is in his last years. He called me he said, ‘BZ BZ, I have a great idea for Karate Kid 5.’ Miyagi’s going to die, and he wanted him to have a proper Okinawan burial, but while he’s sick, he saw Johnny Lawrence as being his doctor, and I thought that was interesting. That was probably the wildest idea I could’ve imagined, and coming from Pat Morita, it was awesome.”

Paging Dr. Lawrence

Johnny coming over to Miyagi Dojo sounds like a fantastic idea. Whether it was made to actually happen, or something Miyagi saw in his mind. Imagine Johnny and Daniel fighting on the same side, interesting to say the least. However, while that’s an intriguing way to go, had Johnny changed his ways, we wouldn’t have Cobra Kai, at least not the same amazing series that we have now.

The sequels simply don’t measure up to the original. However, the films still give us beloved characters in new adventures. Sure, they are fun and entertaining, but Karate Kid Part II and III just didn’t have that same magic that was captured with the first film. You can only have Miyagi blow your mind with his wise training techniques once. Not to say that was the only great moment, the film is all-around enjoyable, but that aspect is something the viewer never forgets.
