The Marvel Cinematic Universe will not be graced with the presence of the incredibly charming Sir Patrick Stewart. The actor who famously portrayed Charles Xavier recently spoke with Digital Spy and revealed he has had talks with Marvel mastermind Kevin Feige about returning as Professor X.
Stewart says he likely would have returned if it wasn’t for a 2017 film he appeared in alongside Hugh Jackman. You can check out exactly what Stewart had to say on the matter below.
“I met with Kevin Feige a couple of months ago and we had long, long conversations. And there have been moves and suggestions, which include Charles Xavier. Here’s the problem… If we had not made Logan, then yes. I would probably be ready to get into that wheelchair one more time and be Charles Xavier. But Logan changed all that.”
I get it. I do. Both Wolverine and Charles Xavier had near-perfect send-offs. While it was a beautiful and bittersweet farewell for Charles Xavier, I assume Stewart’s decision has more to do with how he left the character. As opposed to Charles Xavier’s majestic exit in Logan being altered if the character made another appearance
It’s not hard to draw a line from the talks Stewart and Feige had to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This would be the best way to explain the X-Men’s absence from the MCU up until this point. That doesn’t mean this is what Marvel has planned, it just seems to be the path with cloud-parting sunshine beaming down upon it. With Mando off to one side saying, “This is the way.” Nothing has (at least publicly) been set for the X-Men, so it makes sense Feige would try to bring back a big name to bridge the gap.
