It is the final chapter for Rambo as he rides into the sunset.
As one of Sylvester Stallone’s most iconic characters, Rambo returns in Rambo: Last Blood after the troubled soldier appeared in First Blood in 1982.
In this final film, Rambo must confront his past, and exact revenge in a last mission after a young girl goes missing after a confrontation with a Mexican cartel.
The film also stars Paz Vega (Spanglish), Sergio Peris-Mencheta (Resident Evil: Afterlife), Adrianna Barraza (Babel), Yvette Monreal (Lowriders), Joaquin Cosio (Quantum of Solace), and Oscar Jaenada (The Losers). It is directed by Adrian Grunberg and written by Stallone and Matt Cirulnick.
LRM Online had an exclusive interview with actress Paz Vega via e-mail last week. We’ve discussed briefly about her love for Rambo and being part of this final chapter of the franchise.
The Spanish actress was best known in cinema with Sex and Lucia and Talk to Her, earning critic praises for her performances. She then starred in the English film Spanglish with Adam Sandler that opened more opportunities with American Audiences. Most recently, she has starred in Netflix’s The OA, and Spanish-language television shows Cuna De Lobos and El Continental.
Rambo: Last Blood will be available tomorrow on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD.
Read the exclusive interview with Paz Vega below.
LRM Online: Why were you attracted to Rambo: Last Blood?
Paz Vega: First of all, the possibility of working with Sly, an actor whom I have always admired. And second of all, the story itself. I was very interested in focusing on the trafficking of women that is a constant on the board of Mexico and the United States.
LRM Online: What do you think that makes Rambo such a memorable character?
Paz Vega: Rambo is a character that people connect with. He is someone who rejects violence, but circumstances force him to kill. It is good against evil, and that is why people love it so much.
LRM Online: Were you a fan of Rambo? Which was your favorite and why?
Paz Vega: Yes, of course! I am a fan of the franchise since I was a child. And my favorite is Rambo: First Blood. It’s a brilliant movie in all aspects.
LRM Online: What was your initial reaction when you got the news to be a part of this film and got to work with Sylvester Stallone?
Paz Vega: My first reaction was of immense joy and gratitude to director Adrian Grumberg. Sly and the producers for trusting me to play Carmen. For me, working with Sly has been a dream that has come true.
LRM Online: Tell us about Carmen Delgado that made her essential to play for you.
Paz Vega: Carmen is a journalist who lost her sister to the cartel. She is a strong, brave, and struggling woman who will never rest until she sees her sister’s murderers locked up. She and Rambo will be in the same pain and will team up to fight the bad guys. They have a strong connection.
LRM Online: Was it convenient to film in your home country of Spain for the film rather than in Mexico that the story takes place?
Paz Vega: This is a question for the producers. But I think that reason is merely economic. In the Canary Islands, there is a good tax return. Many international productions are being made there. In addition, the weather and landscape are very versatile, making the Canary Islands a perfect shooting set.
LRM Online: Rambo: Last Blood was praised for having a Latino storyline. How important do you think these types of storylines should be promoted in American cinema?
Paz Vega: Cinema has always been the reflection of society and of changes. That is why it is increasingly common to see stories where the Latino community is represented. It is a reality in the USA, and that is why it is important to make an inclusive cinema where minorities are present.
LRM Online: Your career has taken you through many paths. Is there a role you want to play or someone you want to work with?
Paz Vega: There are many directors I would like to work with. One of them is Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. I’m passionate about his way of telling stories.
LRM Online: Can you talk about some of your future projects?
Paz Vega: In 2020, two movies will be released, which I participated in, called American Night and Thirteen Minutes. And it will also be the year in which I will shoot my first movie as a director based on a script I have written.
Rambo: Last Blood will be available tomorrow on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD.
