Pokemon Go! Brought In $85 Million Last Month

It’s amazing to hear about the success of Niantic Labs’ augmented reality game Pokemon Go. The free to play application has had a total of 522 million downloads since its debut. Just last month Pokemon Go was downloaded 8.86 million times worldwide, which according to market intelligence provider Sensor Tower would represent “represents a 100 percent increase year-over-year compared to September 2017.”

But the most impressive number reported by Sensor Tower was the fact that last month Pokemon Go brought in $84.8 million USD. Although it is a free to play app as mentioned before, it has optional in-app purchases that are obviously bringing in quite the payday for Niantic. The estimated overall gross revenue since it’s debut in 2016 is $2.01 billion. Pokemon Go holds the record for being the fastest mobile game to reach $300 million in revenue, reaching that number in only 113 days. To compare it to another popular game, it took Fortnite 200 days to reach the same number.

Will this game fade away any time soon? Not likely, as a matter of fact, it may increase as Nintendo Switch gears up for the release of Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon Let’s Go, Eevee! which will be exclusives for their console. Also, they will be available as part of a new Switch bundle on November 16th.
