Jeff Loveness, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania writer hints that an ending fan theory doing the rounds might have some substance after all. It goes without saying we’re about to discuss the end of Quantumania, so SPOILERS below if you have not seen it yet. In the film when Scott returns back home he eats a cake which he says tastes awful. Now, this could simply be bad baking skills. However many fans have theorized that Scott didn’t return to his version of Earth. That’s why the cake tasted bad, because this is not his universe i.e. 616.

Now in a recent interview with the Phaze Zero Podcast Loveness does not outright say this is correct. However he does hint there is some aspects which fans are hitting close to.

“I think it’s very interesting. I can’t say much. It actually is not too far off from some possibilities, but I can’t say anything,” Loveness offered.

The writer then steered the question more towards the ending we did say and what kind of impact he wanted it to have.

“For now, the only important thing to say is that the multiverse is limitless and Scott Lang was the man who saved the universe in [Avengers: Endgame] and now he may be the person who accidentally f-cked up the multiverse for everybody.”

“So far, things are good,” he continued. “He’s back to the life that he thinks he has and loves, but he doesn’t have the [assurance] that he did in the top of the movie. That Rocky III swagger is gone and, suddenly, the most carefree, luckiest guy in the MCU has a huge shadow hanging over him and he doesn’t know what to do about it. That felt like an interesting tonal shift for Scott Lang and we’ll see where that goes forward. But, who knows, man?”

Food for thought and definitely worth a discussion/debate among the fan base. Marvel of course are now in a position where they could choose to go that route or not and it will always look planned either way.

What do you think Jeff Loveness, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania writer hints that the ending fan theory might have some substance after all? Thoughts below as always.
