Quentin Dupieux never shies away from unusual films that blend violence and humor. In Mandibles, it’ll be a straight comedy minus the usual violence of his previous movies.

The French director takes a story of two idiots, who discovers a giant fly (yes, it is a giant fly) in a trunk of a car. They devised a way to train the fly to do tricks like a dog but must keep their secret from all the strangers they encounter. Through their actions, it leads to much laugh-out-loud comedy of errors.

The film stars Gregoire Ludig, David Marsais, Adele Exarchopoulos, India Hair, Romeo Elvis, Carolie Russier, and Bruno Lochet.

LRM Online’s Gig Patta spoke with French director Quentin Dupieux on his latest comedy. We talked about how this film was different from his previous films, blending the puppetry and CGI for the giant fly, and the comedic duo and chemistry between Gregoire Ludig and David Marsais.

Quentin Dupieux made his feature film directorial debut with Steak in 2007. His big break in the United States came with 2010’s Rubber, which opened the eyes of American audiences towards his humor and violence. In that film, a supernatural tire treks across the desert landscape on a serial killing spree by blowing up people’s heads. He followed up with many films that landed in the film festival circuits, including Wrong, Wrong Cops, Reality, Keep An Eye Out, and Deerskin. Also, he is a musician who released several albums with Analog Worms Attack, Moustache (Half a Scissor), and Lambs Anger.

Mandibles releases on all platforms today.
