Quentin Tarantino And Sony To Bring Viewers The Films That Inspired Once Upon A Time In Hollywood With The Swinging Sixties

On the heels of the release of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the film’s director Quentin Tarantino has joined forces with Sony to bring viewers The Swinging Sixties. The series is set to showcase the films that influenced Tarantino’s upcoming ninth film that is set in the late 60s.

The films will air on Sony’s own movie channel from July 21-25 bringing viewers right up to the release of the film on the 26. While the films don’t all take place within the decade of the 1960s, they all have some contribution to Tarantino’s new film.

A list of the films follow below.

Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969; director: Paul Mazursky)
Cactus Flower (1969; director: Gene Saks)
Easy Rider (1969; director: Dennis Hopper)
Model Shop (1969; director: Jacques Demy)
Battle of the Coral Sea (1959; director: Paul Wendkos)
Getting Straight (1970; director: Richard Rush)
The Wrecking Crew (1968; director: Phil Karlson)
Hammerhead (1968; director: David Miller)

Tarantino:

“Sony Pictures made their Columbia Pictures catalog available to me so that I could select a series of films representative of the era in which Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set, The Swinging Sixties. I’m thrilled to host these movies so we can enjoy them together.”

Sony Pictures Television Chairman, Mike Hopkins:

“Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood promises to be a cinematic event. We’re excited to support it and bring these fantastic films from the studio’s historic library to SPT’s network audiences around the world.”

I may check this out after I’ve seen the film of course. I’ve always enjoyed Tarantino’s films and his style overall and this new project is shaping up to be another gem in the famed director’s portfolio.
