Rangers of the New Republic Set ‘Right’ After Return Of The Jedi

Rangers Of The New Republic Cancelled By Lucasfilm It Seems

Jon Favreau appeared on Good Morning America today and confirmed the upcoming series, Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic, will be set ‘right’ after Return of the Jedi. While it’s difficult to know exactly what Favreau meant with his use of ‘right,’ it sounds as if Rangers will actually be set a few years before The Mandalorian, which is set somewhere around five years after Return of the Jedi. You can check out exactly what Favreau had to say below.

“All of them take place in a similar timeline, which is right after Return of the Jedi.”

The shows fall within the same basic time period, but if you ask me ‘right after’ and ‘five years after’ are two different settings.

Favreau looks to be taking the reigns on Rangers of the New Republic while Dave Filoni works on Ashoka. The series based on a character he co-created with George Lucas. Now, while it’s still early, it looks as if Disney is hoping these connected shows on the small screen can someday rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A tall order for sure, but I have to say if that’s the plan, they’re off to a good start.

So much for franchise fatigue. It won’t be long before there is almost always new Star Wars content streaming on Disney Plus. And while I have to admit I was very critical of the sequel trilogy, with Favreau and Filoni seeming to be the co-captains of this new Star Wars venture, I am very optimistic. They’re great storytellers and know how to give fans what they want, and just enough of it. Because they too are fans. Very lucky fans in a dream job. They have done a fantastic job so far, and appear to have a showrunner’s vision with the heart of a fan.

Will Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic fit nicely into Disney PlusStar Wars universe? Let us know in the comments down below!
