Ray Fisher Would Still Love A Cyborg Solo Film With Zack Snyder As Director

The Justice League movie has come and gone, and in spite of Warner Bros.’ efforts, it did not end up being an Avengers-like success. Instead, it flopped pretty hard, ending up as the lowest-grossing DC Extended Universe film to date. This would seem to spell all sorts of trouble for all the films originally slated for after — and it pretty much has. The current slate of the DCEU is always shifted, twisted, and questioned. But if there’s one character that keeps coming up, it’s Cyborg.

Way back when Warner Bros. announced their DC slate, a Cyborg film was put in place. This was a character who was mostly known as a Teen Titan and who had only just recently joined the Justice League in the comics — would he really need his own standalone film? That’s something fans are still asking themselves, but speaking with DC World, Cyborg himself Ray Fisher expressed his desire to reprise his role as Victor Stone.

“Zack explained what the overall plan for me was at the time and that there was the potential of a Cyborg standalone down the line. Assuming the story would be grounded and compelling, I’d love to do a solo film. I think Cyborg has the potential for a superhero film unlike any we’ve seen before. If Zack were to ever come back to direct another DC film, he’d be my top pick to direct.”

Grounded and compelling is key. His particular take on the character is tortured — almost like a Frankenstein’s monster. The big difference is that in addition to being an “abomination” of sorts, he also has access to all the knowledge in the world, which could lead to him becoming increasingly disenfranchised with humanity. That’s a story I’d LOVE to see, even if I have very little interest in Cyborg as a whole.

But is Snyder the right man to take on the job? I’d be surprised if Warner Bros. lets the man anywhere near DC again, and as much as I do like his work (I’ll defend a lot of it to the ends of the Earth), I’d prefer to see a different take on his particular brand on nihilism.
