The day that nerds and geeks around the world have been waiting two years for is now less than two months away — the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In speaking with USA Today, the film’s director, Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick) says Leia’s final adventure is going to be one to remember:
“Having these scenes in the film recontextualize tragically with her not being here anymore, it’s incredibly emotional. For the next few months, seeing the fans … process the loss and celebrate her as Leia one last time, it’s going to be intense. I think it’s going to be really sad but really joyful, I hope. She really kicks (butt) as General Leia, and I’m happy for that.”

Johnson’s words imply a thoughtful and heroic send off for one of the most beloved characters in one of the most beloved franchises of all time. Leia has kicked butt ever since A New Hope, and The Last Jedi should be no different. I feel confident that Johnson will do Leia justice and give the character the send off she deserves
Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens December 15.
