Rian Johnson Says Leia Will Kick Butt In The Last Jedi

The day that nerds and geeks around the world have been waiting two years for is now less than two months away — the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In speaking with USA Today, the film’s director, Rian Johnson (LooperBrick) says Leia’s final adventure is going to be one to remember:

“Having these scenes in the film recontextualize tragically with her not being here anymore, it’s incredibly emotional. For the next few months, seeing the fans … process the loss and celebrate her as Leia one last time, it’s going to be intense. I think it’s going to be really sad but really joyful, I hope. She really kicks (butt) as General Leia, and I’m happy for that.”

Johnson’s words imply a thoughtful and heroic send off for one of the most beloved characters in one of the most beloved franchises of all time. Leia has kicked butt ever since A New Hope, and The Last Jedi should be no different. I feel confident that Johnson will do Leia justice and give the character the send off she deserves

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens December 15.
