Rick And Morty Writer To Pen Ant-Man 3

Man, the folks over at Marvel Studios really seem to like Rick and Morty. Late last year we saw Rick and Morty writers join projects like Loki and She-Hulk. But apparently the world of Disney+ wasn’t good enough for the talent from that show. They’ve now scratched and clawed their way to the big screen. According to THR, Rick and Morty co-producer and scribe Jeff Loveness is the latest to be recruited to the MCU, this time for Ant-Man 3.

The deal between Loveness and Marvel Studios was closed not too long ago. In fact, the outlet states it was only wrapped up near the beginning of the Hollywood shutdown. Surprisingly, Loveness is reportedly already in the process of writing the film. It’s unclear to me whether or not he’s starting the story from scratch or if he’s working off of an outline from director Peyton Reed.

There is currently no release date set for Ant-Man 3, but with Peyton Reed already set to return and Loveness currently writing, they’re in pretty good shape. However, as it stands, Marvel Studios already has a packed 2021 schedule. I can see them finishing up the script this year and beginning production next year, but even then, thee last movie on their slate is July 8, 2022. Basically, they have a lot of time to iron out this script and make it work.

That being said, you never know with Ant-Man. Marvel Studios has a tendency to throw these movies in the thick of things, and I could see them trying to slide it in somewhere unexpected — even in spite of a crowded schedule.

With Loveness chipping away at this thing, I can’t help but think of a recent rumor that hit not too long ago. As shown in the linke above, there was word surrounding Evangeline Lilly’s involvement in the story. Lilly made controversial coronavirus comments recently. As such, it was floated that she was written in a reduced role in favor of a father-daughter story. I still doubt it’s true, but I’m still surprised Marvel is already churning out a script for this thing, so it’s hard to say. For all I know, that rumor could end up being true.

Regardless, I’m sure plenty are happy to see another Rick and Morty scribe on board to the MCU. Those guys tend to know how to mix legit sci-fi premises with some real comedy, so it’s no wonder they keep going back to talent from that show.
