Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has been a big fan of the G.I. Joe franchise as long as he remembers. So when IDW asked him to create a G.I. Joe comic book series, Liefeld jumped on the opportunity with Snake Eyes: Deadgame.
The five-part comic book series arrived to its conclusion this week after launching to plenty of fanfare a year ago during the pandemic. The series feature Liefeld’s favorite G.I. Joe character Snake Eyes as the central figure, but with plenty of appearances from other unexpected characters.
The Snake Eyes: Deadgame series follow Snake Eyes to the end of the Earth in search of a way to take down an immortal being Kirigun, who can raise an army of the dead.
The fifth and final comic book reaches its climatic conclusion as he confronts Kirigun and his daughter Olympia with a weapon from a god. During this final confrontation, allies and enemies must unite together to bring down a greater enemy.
Closing out the run of the best-selling series, Rob Liefeld recruited the who’s who of the comic book industry for the final issue. He brought in the all-star list of comic book legends to provide inks and finishes to his penciled art. The cast of legends included Kevin Eastman (TMNT), Ryan Ottley (Invincible, Amazing Spider-Man), Eric Canete (Justice League), and Karl Kerschi (Deadpool, Superman).
Also, he enlisted the living legend of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, Larry Hama, in which Rob Liefeld inks over Larry Hama’s pencils for a special once-in-a-lifetime collectible cover event.
