According to a new Star Wars Barside Buzz, Rogue Squadron is now being developed as a TV series instead of a movie. Now, this is not the first time we have heard of the now cancelled movie being adapted into a series for Disney+ instead. When the movie was first announced it was being developed by director Patty Jenkins, who still claimed to be involved along after we knew it was dead. Well, seemingly dead as a movie anyway.
The last we heard officially was from outgoing Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Kennedy claimed the story was currently on the shelf, and even indicated it could become a series still at that point. It’s also an idea we here at LRM had heard was certainly being explored. Though, that was years ago now.
Now scooper MTTSH, who doesn’t do much Star Wars news, says she’s heard some information from sources about Rogue Squadron. Namely, as per the title that Lucasfilm are now developing it as a series instead of a movie.

When we used to record episodes of our Star Wars podcast, The Cantina (back when there was content and news), Kyle (Malone) and I always talked about this. Both of us feeling that a series, focused on an elite team of pilots would work better than a film. Our pitch was something more in line with the Battlestar Galactica reboot which we both felt would work. Hopefully, with some actual consulting with the likes of Rogue Squadron author Michael Stackpole. Stackpole wrote some great battle sequences and squad/mission based drama.
Get Oscar Isaac back as Poe Dameron playing the commander (Wedge) role from the old books and make a new team. It would be more of a guest role for Isaac rather than a starring one, for me. But hey, that’s just my thoughts.
As with all rumors, take this with a pinch of salt folks. Officially, far as we know, Rogue Squadron remains on the shelf, but you never know? Would you liked to see Rogue Squadron developed as a TV series instead of a movie? Leave any thoughts below.
