Sandor Clegane, better known as The Hound from is perhaps one of the more lovable a**holes ever seen on screen, and one of the more begrudgingly beloved characters on HBO’s Game of Thrones. For the actor who played him, Rory McCann, the role came at just the right time.

McCann appeared on the Game of Thrones Reunion Special and talked about before he landed the role of The Hound, he had fallen on some pretty hard times, you can check out what he had to say below about his time in Iceland.

“I was in a tent – literally in a tent – stealing food occasionally. Eventually I got a job and sorted myself out, but then suddenly I’m getting driven around in a nice car in the biggest and best show in the world – just shows how your fortunes can change. Amazing.”

McCann was in Iceland shooting a movie and said he decided to stay due to a lack of acting work at the time. There are many stories of iconic roles changing the lives of actors, and they’re always great to hear. The Game of Thrones Reunion Special will be available December 2, on the Game of Thrones boxset.
