In a recent interview star Rosamund Pike teases that the Stone of Tear may still happen in later seasons of The Wheel of Time. Folk’s there’s inevitably going to be some book spoilers in this article.

If you are show only, I’ll make this brief.

A really important scene from book 3 hasn’t happened yet. Now we are on book 4 with Season 3. Pike therefore, teases it could come still, but out of order in future seasons.

Now stop reading, that’s all you show only fans are getting!

Well, unless you wish more detail, or don’t care about book spoilers, then read on.

Speaking with Radio Times to promote The Wheel of Time Season 3, Pike commented on the fact the Stone of Tear hasn’t happened yet.

“We haven’t neglected the Stone of Tear, we’ve just rearranged the order,” she exclusively told RadioTimes.com.

“There’ll be debate about it, but instead of Rand, as you would expect, his next point on his journey would be to go and get Callandor from the Stone of Tear, we are going into the Aiel Waste first, because he needs to discover who he is.”

“Obviously in the novels, there’s loads of opportunity for the internal battles of Rand, coming to terms with being the Dragon Reborn – but we need to make that active.”

“We can’t do subjective thinking on film. So we need him to go and discover who he is by going to the land of where he comes from. So we’re going to the Aiel Waste first and I hope you’ll understand and appreciate why.”

I actually think the perfect place for Tear (now) is to merge it with the battle of Cairhien. After the events of book 4, which will be covered in Season 3, there is a battle in Cairhien in book 5. I won’t go into too much detail, but book fans know the sides involved. What if that battle is merged with the Stone of Tear? Move the battle to Tear, add in some Forsaken and by the end of Season 4 you could have covered all the major events of books 1-5. Albeit, in a different order.

I mean, book readers can make assumptions as I have done that certain events from book 5 will happen at the close of Season 3 instead. I’m thinking of the events involving Moiraine and Lanfear of course. Which the marketing seems to be teasing this season.

Fans have rightly presumed Tear cannot just be completely cut from the show. After all, if they ever plan to get to the end of the series, then Callandor is needed. I’m not sure how you introduce Callandor and not have the breaching of the Stone?

Whether this proves a successful approach or not remains to be seen? I think it can be made to work. However, let’s see if the show gets renewed for Season 4 first. Then we can start theorising (theorizing if you’re from the US, I’m British) how we get to Tear.

The Wheel of Time Season 3 premieres with first three episodes on March 13.

What do you think of her comments as Rosamund Pike teases the Stone of Tear could still happen in future seasons of The Wheel of Time? Thoughts below as always.
