Rumor: David Gordon Green Returning To Direct Back-To-Back Halloween Sequels

According to an unconfirmed rumor reported by Bloody-Disgusting, director David Gordon Green will be directing back-to-back sequels to his smash hit Halloween. The 2018 horror film was a direct follow-up to John Carpenter’s 1978 classic Halloween, avoiding any story connection to the sequels and reboots in-between. Green’s film, which he co-wrote with Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley, continued the story of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) forty years after that fateful Halloween night in the small town of Haddonfield.

The article from Bloody-Disgusting went on to state the following:

From what I’m told, not only will they be filming two sequels back-to-back, but they are discussing releasing both in the same month. Yes, it’s within the realm of possibility that we’ll see two Halloween films released in October 2020.

The rumor continues the initial idea Green and McBride had conceiving their Halloween project. The two had considered filming two Halloween films back-to-back before production halted in order to rewrite the ending and create the one film that was released. It seems that at one point, even the idea of a full-blown trilogy was in the air.

Costing only $10 million to produce, the 2018 Halloween went on to gross $250 million globally. That box office take made it the highest-grossing slasher horror film ever made, the second highest-grossing film under the Blumhouse Productions banner, and breaking the top 5 box office for R-rated horror films of all time. Additionally, with the return of Jamie Lee Curtis, the film became the highest-grossing film starring a female lead over the age of 55.

If the rumor is true, it will be interesting to see how the writers continue the story, given the 2018 film’s final act. However, if there is ever a character that writers seem to always find a way to keep alive, it is Michael Myers. There is still no word from the Green/McBride/Blumhouse camps so until then, we will be left gnawing on this intriguing rumor.
