RUMOR: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ to Pull Strangest Character From Marvel Canon

Funny. Weird. Exciting. These are adjectives that many people may use when describing “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Benicio del Toro’s character, The Collector, went a long way to adding to the “weird” factor of the film, but even with him, I felt the film played it rather safe in terms of how weird it was willing to get. If the following bit of news is to be believed, however, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is pulling out all the stops.

According to some sources close to Geek.com, the next “Guardians of the Galaxy” film will have the character Ego the Living Planet make an appearance.

I’ll repeat that. Ego the Living Planet may show up in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” For those of you who have no idea who that is, the most important piece of information — as indicated by the second half of Ego’s name — is that he is a living planet.

Take a look at what he looks like below.

In the comics, Ego was a formerly normal planet that was given its sentience by a character called the Stranger. Since then, Ego has been on an never-ending journey to find himself, and has taken to conquering planets as a means of doing so. Ego has crossed paths with a couple of our favorite comic book heroes in the past, including Thor and the Fantastic Four. It’s a weird idea for sure, yet it’s very much in-keeping with what we’ve seen in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” world. It’s so dumb that it works.

But just how big will Ego’s role in the movie be? Would it be a villain role, or maybe just a random character the guardians have to get information out of? I can see the banter between Chris Pratt and the planet already, though it’s a character Marvel would have to be careful with. You have to have him in the movie long enough to be impactful, but short enough so he doesn’t overstay his welcome.

This is currently a rumor, so it remains unconfirmed, but what do you think?

What do you hope to see from Ego the Living Planet? Let us know down below!
