Rumor: HBO Max Developing Animated Game Of Thrones Spin-Off

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is in the very early stages of development on an animated Game of Thrones spin-off.  Meetings with author George R. R. Martin are said to be taking place.

The outlet noted that it’s possible the series may never come to fruition. If this turns out to be true, it will mark the third spin-off currently in development. Plenty of ways the network could go with the series, as there are many wonderful stories of Westeros that are yet to be told on screen.

The first spin-off had a working title of Bloodmoon and would have been set during the Age of Heroes, 8,000 years before the Westeros we know. The series didn’t get too far in the development process before the project was stopped. The network then moved forward with House of the Dragon. Which will follow the Targaryen family and be set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Most recently it was announced that George. R.R. Martin’s novella series, Tales of Dunk and Egg, would be the next spin-off of Martin’s work to be adapted into a television series. The show will follow the adventures of Sir Duncan the Tall and Aegon V Targaryen which takes place a century before Game of Thrones.
