Oscar-winner Russell Crowe will be setting foot in the horror genre in the very near future. The actor best known for his performances in Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, Cinderella Man, and Man Of Steel, will star in the currently untitled Miramax supernatural thriller that is written and directed by newcomers Joshua John Miller and M.A. Fortin (Final Girls, Queen Of The South). Deadline reported the news late Thursday afternoon.

The online news source describes the film as follows:

In the project, Crowe plays a troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a horror film. His estranged daughter wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play.

This production will be the first in the new deal Miramax inked with writer/producer Kevin Williamson last year. The first-look pact for Williamson is meant to enhance the genre content for the production company. Williamson is best known for being the creative mind behind the Scream franchise as well as Dawson’s Creek, The Following, and The Vampire Diaries. Williamson’s Outerbanks banner will now be aligned with Miramax in the upcoming production, along with Ben Fast and Miramax’s Bill Block.

Williamson has the following to say regarding the upcoming film:

“Bill and I are so excited to work with Russell, one of the greatest actors of our time… Fortin and Miller have such a fresh vision for this film, we know that together they will create something terrifying and memorable.”

There has yet to be a set release date for the upcoming film.
